Our Little Turtle

Another night has snuck up on us. We just used 4 of 5 S's on Sebi to calm him down and read Chapter 9 of "Treasure Island" to him (it is nearly impossible to read aloud; I keep messing up all the nautical jargon), and now we are listening to The Bill Evans Trio "Waltz for Debby" (which, along with "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" should be played every night in every household). Friday was my last day of substitute teaching for the year as it has now closed. I have nothing to do now but work on the house with my dad and finish as many courses as I can for my Masters (I am currently taking Metaphysics and working on a paper defending Aquinas' cosmological argument based on possibility and necessity, or the 'third way,' for anyone interested in that kind of thing). Mariah is still momming-it-up all day long. She just started a biography of Marie Antoinette ("Marie Antoinette: The Journey" by Antonia Frasier) that she has wanted to read since we visited the Hapsburg's palaces in Vienna (see December 2006 of this blog). I actually just started "The Moviegoer" by Walker Percy. The author was recommended to me by a new friend of mine named Roland Allen (I have attached a link to his blog under our "bloggin' it up" heading). I'm only a few chapters into it, but I love it already. Any book that explores themes by Kierkegaard has got my attention!

Anyway, on to subjects you actually care about. We took little Sebi to my dad's school today (we have already taken him to my mom's three times). The head pastor there anointed little Sebi and we laid hands on him and prayed for him. It was awesome! We were not expecting it, but we were very glad about it. Then my dad's friend, Betina, gave us a present, which was very kind of her and for which we are very grateful. It was a Hawaiian shirt and shorts (which he'll have to grow in to), and a little plush turtle. We loved them both, but the turtle was especially apropos as that is one of the nicknames we gave him for the way he looks when he yawns. Mariah says it is a bit like the turtle on "The Neverending Story". Anyway, thanks from Mariah and I and from our little Turtle. We even found a special little nook for it in his co-sleeper.
